May 9, 1998 - Lombard, IL Chicago's Western suburbs may be one of the best places in the country to bring up children but if you are single and live there, the social landscape is pretty bleak. And with an average 50 hour work week, two hour daily round-trip commute, health club visits and errands, the time to mingle - when you are single -- is definitely in short supply. Delightful Dining Inc., a new DuPage County business, is taking this challenge head-on. It provides discriminating West Suburban single professionals with an opportunity to enhance their social life by meeting other single professionals, in a relaxed setting, several times a month.
Whether the single professional is interested in making new friends or finding romance, Delightful Dining takes care of the details, providing a comfortable environment that is favorable for socializing with others. Events, which are held in conveniently located DuPage-area restaurants, include theme parties, Sunday brunches and dinner-dances.
What's different about Delightful Dining is that every effort is made to match single professionals with others who share similar backgrounds and interests. From the moment they arrive, guests are made to feel welcome and comfortable. And to help minimize the awkwardness that often comes with meeting new people, a host and hostess welcome and introduce each guest and seating assignments are pre-arranged. This structured, yet informal, approach gives single professionals an opportunity to make the most of the limited time they have available to meet new people.
Delightful Dining Inc., was started by two single professionals who met at a singles dinner and now are getting married. Familiar with the isolation facing single people in the suburbs, and the awkwardness associated with many singles functions, they know there had to be a better way. Delightful Dining is the result. Membership is $98 per year; first-time guests may attend one event for the cost of the event plus $10. Members receive bi-monthly announcements of upcoming events with a reservation form. They can then select as few or as many events they desire.
