Singles club links common interests

March 19, 1998 - Chicago, IL — Sometimes its hard to be single in the suburbs.

Young unmarrieds often struggle to find places to meet and mingle in an environment that often seems indifferent to singles.

A DuPage County couple that found a way to get together, though, has formed a new club to give single professionals refuge.

Lombard resident Bonnie Lewis and Hanover Park resident David Bugniazet met through the club called Single Servings about a year ago and eventually became engaged. While grateful for the opportunity to meet, they often thought they could run a better singles club.

"There are other singles organizations and both of us have gone to functions at those various groups, but your kind of on your own when you get there," Lewis said. "We are going to kind of act as a host and a hostess."

When they heard the owner of Single Servings was planning to sell it last fall, they decided to buy it or start their own business.

Ultimately, Lewis, a marketing manager for ITT Industries, and Bugniazet, a territory manager for GE Capital, chose the later route.

They formed Delightful Dining Inc. in Lombard and will hold their first dinner party next month at the Clubhouse in Oakbrook Center.

Lewis, 41, and Bugniazet, 49, hope to have two to three dinners, theme parties, brunches or other events per month and 100 members by the end of the year.

Delightful Dining will arrange seating at each of the gatherings according to age, interests and other characteristics. Lewis and Bugniazet also plan to actively mingle and introduce people to make sure people are meeting.

Membership cost $98 per year.
